Survey Study Shows How to Reduce Family Physician Burnout

Family physicians are experiencing high rates of burnout, with over half reporting burnout in a recent study. This study identified two key factors contributing to burnout: excessive time spent on EHR tasks at home and weak nurse-physician teams.

The study found that physicians who perceived their EHR use at home as appropriate were less likely to experience burnout. Additionally, those who perceived high team efficiency were also less likely to burn out. Strong collaboration with registered nurses was associated with greater team efficiency, while collaboration with physician assistants was linked to more appropriate home EHR time.
