A coalition of 39 healthcare providers, joined by the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA), has filed a class-action lawsuit against UnitedHealth Group, its subsidiaries Optum and Change Healthcare. The suit alleges significant financial losses due to the February 2024 cyberattack on Change Healthcare, which crippled claims processing and payment systems across the healthcare industry.

The government’s health technology office has proposed new rules to improve how health information is shared. These rules, called HTI-2, aim to make it easier for patients, doctors, insurance companies, and public health agencies to exchange information securely.

- Better ways to share information, including medical images like X-rays
- Stronger privacy protections, especially for sensitive health information
- Updates to existing rules to cover more situations and improve data sharing
- New guidelines for a national health information network
The government hopes these changes will make healthcare more efficient and help patients make better decisions about their care. For example, one new tool could help people compare drug costs and find cheaper alternatives.
The public has 60 days to comment on these proposed rules before they become final. The government will consider feedback from healthcare professionals and the public before making any final decisions.
